HISTORY

History of Sharjah and AUS

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah. Built on the foundations of meritocracy and renowned for its exceptional academic standards, AUS has emerged as a symbol of excellence in both education and research. It holds international accreditation and is globally acknowledged by employers for producing graduates who possess the expertise, capabilities, and determination to excel in the 21st century.

History of AUSMUN

A few years ago, AUS participated in the Harvard Model United Nations, the largest and oldest of its kind in the world. We were able to learn first-hand about different aspects of the international political system and grasp our role as citizens of the world. In months, students from AUS worked relentlessly to create a conference that both delegates and advisors would enjoy and dearly remember. We proudly recall the immense success of the first AUSMUN. The delegates left the conference with a significantly improved understanding of international relations and organizations. We strive to replicate that remarkable feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction each year. This year marks the 18th Annual Model United Nations at the American University of Sharjah. AUSMUN promises to uphold its legacy and make this year's conference one worth remembering for the years to come.

Diversity at AUS

The American University of Sharjah proudly stands among the Top 5 globally for its exceptional diversity. With a representation of over 90 nationalities among both students and faculty, our institution is a testament to a rich multicultural tapestry, fostering an academically enriching and globally aware environment. Beyond the statistical achievement, our commitment to inclusivity permeates various facets of university life. AUS is more than an academic institution; it serves as a microcosm of the world, where collaborative learning is enriched by a diversity of perspectives. This cultural richness extends beyond the classroom to encompass various extracurricular activities such as student clubs, cultural events, and international exchange programs. Graduates from AUS not only receive a world-class education but also gain a profound understanding of global diversity. At the American University of Sharjah, diversity is not merely a numerical distinction but a fundamental aspect of our commitment to fostering a globally conscious community.
